V8 ZT260 assemblies

I am sure many will be interested to know that the MG and Rover based V8 models do not feature in the future model plans of NAC MG. At the time of the MGR Collapse a considerable number of new engines, gearboxes, axles, etc were within Longbridge awaiting fitting to new cars. Efforts have been ongoing over some considerable time now to sell these items as a job lot, but they have not attracted a buyer. Now There is a specific desirfe from within Longbridge to offer these itmes for the benefit of those enthusiasts owning these cars first before a second line of sale is followed overseas.

There are plenty of new 16 valve engines to supply Two Sixties members with more than one engine, some will be attached to gearboxes some not. There are also auto gearboxes attached to some engines. There are some that are in what is known as 'Stuff Up' condition, which means engine, box, mounted in the front subframe along with lower suspension arms, brakes, cats, engine loom and other odds and ends. There are even some supercharged (Roushe) engines in Stuff Up state, showing how close more 385 models were to being built, and some SH 32 valve engines (SV) too. Rear axle set ups are available and other odds and ends.

Prices for some of the new items are currently set at...
Supercharged 385 eng/box Stuff Up £5000
Supercharged 385 engine £4500
260 normal engine/box Stuff Up £3250
260 eng/box £2750
260 eng £2000
Rear suspension assembly £1100

Some of the second hand items are...
32 valve (SV) engines £3000
16 valve 260 engines £1500
rear diffs £300

NOTE all prices will attract VAT

Some reading this will have been recently contacted by the selling agent following specific individual enquiries they have previously made. Unfortunately I have not been given permission to simply post the contact details here, but anyone interestged please e-mail me at RogerP@mgownersclub.co.uk and I will be happy to forward your messages.

This is clearly a one off opportunity to buy items at a considerably lower price than would normally be the case. However, be very aware that storing an item like an engine and gearbox is no small matter and it takes a considerable space. It is also necessary to keep the engine from suffering internal corrosion and ending up a heavy piece of junk.

Please make specific note that whilst the idea of a 'stuff up' Roushe complete dressed engine and gearbox for 5K may seem a snip remember that this is without ECU and that is not an off the shelf item. The opposite is true when looking at a standard 260 engine and the stuff up ones come fully dressed so have items like air con compressor, alternator, engine loom, full top dressing so that includes coils, injectors etc.

The other point is that with the second hand items such as rear diffs there is no history to indicate where they came from and why they were removed. However on some of the engines in that SH category there are some that are brand new but which were damaged by being dropped, and I know several of these have just broken cam covers, which as owners will know are plastic and some have no other damage. Note that some of these will have been MG Rovered in terms of the specific alloy sump change and gearboxes with the remote and the rear propshaft flange.

Whilst I have not been told of anything outside the list above I expect that there may be some other items such as propshafts and smaller SH sub items as I have seen many such items loosely lying about so if there is a specific mechanical item being sought then it is worth asking.

There is time pressure within LB to remove these items which represent aspects which will not be part of the future product plans. The probability of these items remaining in the UK beyond the short term if not sold to enthusiasts is very small and if that is the case then the special MG parts may well be lost.

I copied this in from the SV Forum.

I would like to ask the same question here. I spoke to Brian Luti who mentioned that these units come minus ECU's which he said rendered them useless.

Does anyone now if other ECU's on the market such as Motec would do the trick?

Should be possible.

One should be able to take an original brain to an aftermarket company and ask them to copy the mapping.

Any good aftermarket engine tuner should be able to fit or update the ecu,the most likey being a stand alone engine management system, would the SV lump fit the ZT if so that could be interesting.
