I for one still think that the 180 can still hold it's own against the new breed of hot saloon's on sale at present, maybe not on power but on handling the chassis department worked wonders with the R45 to make a barge into the hot saloon that is the ZS.

A good chasis and a flexible engine will always perform well. Some of the new breed seem to rely on modern trickery to much for my liking.

So true norman how many car maker's have followed Honda vtec and Mgr with the vvc designed engine.

The ZS180 especially the Mark 2 still looks very fresh.

In fact I see BMW with the new M3 has side vents. Flattery indeed! :D

The problem with some of the modern hot hatches, is that they have shed loadsa power- but a chassis that can't cope (Astra VXR anyone!)

I'm not so sure i would agree that the zs can still cut it with the best of the modern stuff! (comparing standard to standard!)- the zs in such a contest is pretty much out-gunned by all of them in terms of power output!

Where the zs can claw it back in some cases is in it's greater ability to exploit the power it has! (bit like how the Porsche 911 can whoop an M6 a-b on a good road or track!- even though it has FAAAR less power!)

as stated above power to weight :p
dont matter if ya VXR has 240 bhp if it wieths 250kg more than a 200 bhp motor
was a group test rescently with all modern hot hatches and the all were 17-18 secs 0-100

yeah power to weight matters for the traffic light g.p but being competitive to me means being quick from a to b or round a lap and for that the zs has ample power already ,you just have to be able make the most of it ,i would put handling mods first on my list.
Its amazing what the zs can do with relatively little money spent on mods:cool:
