In my opinion a very under-rated foodstuff.

Not the cheap 'made from whatever was on the floor' ones, but real ones. My favourites would be the 'Pork and Apple' ones from a butchers in Coniston in the Lake District, although we did have some very nice 'Pork and Pear' ones from a supermarket (one of their 'Best' range.

What do other people think?

I agree Norman

The wife went to a sausage festival last year and brought back some pork & leek sausages from a company in Ragley in Warickshire, they were the most succulent i have ever experianced with a very high meat content.
I'm a firm believer in supporting local produce and theres a lot of really good stuff out there if you know where to look.

A good sausage is a real treat, but the supermarkets tend to sell total sheite.
I used to liove near a traditional pork butcher & the sausages & bacon were gorgeous.

Very true. TV seems to be swamped with cooking programmes (is cookery the new rock'n'roll?) and all of the top chefs are telling everyone to use their local butcher to get the best quality.

Having said that I'm just about to cook breakfast and the sausages were bought from the supermarket. Going to give the 'Paul Rankin' Irish pork ones a try.

These cooking programmes have been at the forefront of promoting regional foods and one of the best is Rick Steins show. We went to butchers row in Barnstaple which was featured and bought steak with locally grown new potatoes and onions. The meal my wife cooked really hit the spot but as we are guilty of buying much of the rubbish sold in the supermarkets it was obvious locally grown produce literally just dug up out the ground was going to play wonderfull games with my palet.
