An observation, if this car is £9,994 what did the dealer pay the punter for it. £8k - less?

It's only done 31,000 miles too.

Fill your boots.

Just down the road from school. May have a look if I go into school over half term.

Seems a good buy to me. Lets face it, 31K is nowt to a big lumbering V8.

What's the fuel consumption like compared to a 2.5 V6?

I would say about 4mpg worse in the 260.

That's one cheap ZT but i could'nt live with the fuel consumption with a burbling V8 under the bonnet,i would have to hit the loud pedal too much :D.

Having run into numerous probs on my V6 of late I am so tempted to dump it and buy this! My annual mileage has dropped to 5-8k since I've been flying so much in the last 18mths.

But, unlike the KV6, the V8 always seemed to me to be an incompatable marriage. The electronics never seemed to be right and the one 260 I went in felt very much pre-production and not the kind of sophisticated vehicle the KV6 always was. On the other hand, the 260 is very much a raw sports saloon that the rest of the ZT range can never be.

That said, though, aside from the running costs on insurance, servicing, tyres and fuels - what are the typical problems to be expected on these cars?

BTW someone else I know is selling an SE spec saloon with Monogramme paint finish privately for similar money.

Martin/Byron, I understand where you are coming from entirely on the running costs - as fuel gets more expensive they are becoming very prohibitive to own/run. Insurance isn't a problem Martin (although it was at EVO levels for me). Servicing is very regular + tyre wear!

Plus the associated Ford v Rover ECU issues. Then all the known problems.

I think we all desire such a car then our we see the light! My guess is the owners that do "take the plunge" are a little bit romantic about the MG V8 and its associated "perceived" image.

On the other-hand if money was no object, then I would certainly be the proud owner of one. Contra-re.

Where do you put the luggage?

LPG tank in the boot (spare wheel housing is full of Batteries and ECU).

Something worth a looksie though!

Been sitting on my mind all weekend and having seen a similar thread on another forum, it would appear that there are a good few 260s about.

I'd love a ZT-T in Mk1 style if nothing else for a bigger load space (it would appear from Jerry's post the saloon loses some useful space such as the wheel well where I have sat a B and an O series engine!).

I am not sure a classic is really an option for my everyday needs so this is an alternative:

Would parts be as easy to get because it is very much Ford based?
What Insurance group?
Having stumbled on all the vices of the KV6 (clutch, rad fan motor, expensive cambelts, popping camshaft seals, corroded pipes, failed fuel filter...) what are the potential breakdowns on the 260?
Am I right in thinking 5k oil change plus 10k rear tyres?
Is the Mk2 a better sorted car?

In essence chopping in a high miler ZT 160 V6 for a low miler ZT 260 V8, is it a case of frying pan and into fire?

Fring pan into the fire - would have thought a well sorted 190 would be easier on the wallet.

1) Unique 260 parts could be a problem.

2) I did post what I thought were the 260 pitfalls here:http://www.xpower-mg.com/forum/showthread.php?p=3373#post3373

But I don't want to appear biassed, so other people views maybe more balanced. Reckon most of the issues are now sorted or a fix has been found.

3) Tyres - I got 7-8000 miles on the rears.

4) Servicing is 5,000 miles (A FORD requirement).

5) Fuel consumption was heavy (on my car). 180 - 220 miles a tankful.

6) Car feels heavy and is. But it does make up for a lot of things in its RWD handling, steering and noise. Think you'll be disappointed with its actual performance though!

7) Insurance was £800pa.

In SUMMARY - go for it with OPEN eyes and you could have a lot of fun.

Thanks, Jerry, should have recalled reading that yesterday morning! Doh!

Hmmm, bonfire has been extinguished methinks!

I think a season ticket on the train might be easiest! :-)

Will have to investigate a little more!
